The Dendrobium nobile is native to India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China (Tibet), Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Flowering in spring, a well-grown plant can put on a real show.
Dendrobium nobile is an ideal plant to grow outdoors in mild climates like southern Australia with some key requirements. They rest over winter so should be kept mostly dry (from about mid-April through to mid-September in the Southern Hemisphere) with only the occasional watering to keep the pseudobulbs from becoming too wrinkled. Dendrobium nobile should not be fertilised at all over winter while they are resting.
During their growing season (October to mid April in the Southern Hemisphere), they should be watered and fertilised regularly.
